Mark January 15, 2026 on your calendar if you are an Animal Crossing fan as Nintendo surprisingly announced not just a Switch 2 upgraded edition of the game but a base game content update as well!

The update comes with the following for new Nintendo Switch 2 users:

• Mouse controls with the right Joy-Con 2 controller to decorate indoors, create Custom Designs and even compose hand-written bulletin-board messages.
• Locate residents by calling their names using the in-game megaphone item and the built-in Nintendo Switch 2 microphone.
• Join 12-player sessions for online sessions if everyone is playing the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
• Play with friends via CameraPlay. Connect a compatible USB camera (sold separately) and see their reactions in-game while exploring your island together.
  
  

If you are however still playing on the Nintendo Switch 1, do not fret as this update comes with base game contents for all.

A new hotel will be seen at the coast ran by the familiar Kapp’n’s Family as well as new additional characters, lots of themed items to decorate your island with and an exclusive Slumber Island for Nintendo Switch Online Members.

Pre-purchase of the update for existing ANCH base game owners is currently available in digital form for the paid upgrade pack starting today on the My Nintendo Store and Nintendo eShop for $4.99. As for the physical copies and full game digital purchases, it will be available on January 15 for $64.99.

This is certainly a welcome surprise from Nintendo for Animal Crossing fans!
