The Game Awards 2025 delivered another spectacular night, celebrating the year’s greatest achievements in gaming and offering a glimpse into the future with a flurry of exciting announcements. Hosted by Geoff Keighley, the show solidified its reputation as the industry’s premier event.
The biggest winner of the night was undoubtedly Clair Obscure: Expedition 33, which clinched the coveted Game of the Year award. This turn-based RPG surprised many by overcoming juggernauts like Death Stranding 2: On The Beach and Hades II, a testament to its compelling narrative, stunning art direction, and innovative gameplay. The indie darling also took home awards for Best Role-Playing Game and Best Art Direction, marking a truly triumphant evening for the new IP.
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach still had a strong showing, earning Best Game Direction and Best Score and Music, acknowledging Hideo Kojima’s unique vision and its evocative soundtrack. Meanwhile, Hades II was recognized for its addictive gameplay loop and engaging characters, securing Best Action Game.
Other notable winners included Hollow Knight: Silksong for Best Independent Game and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II for Best Audio Design. The player’s voice was heard loudly with Donkey Kong Bananza winning Players’ Voice, showcasing its widespread appeal.
Beyond the awards, the show was packed with world premieres and new trailers. Highlights included a first look at the next title from the creators of Alan Wake, a surprise reveal for a new Fable spin-off, and an extended gameplay demonstration for the highly anticipated The Elder Scrolls VI. The Game Awards 2025 proved once again that the industry is thriving, brimming with creativity, and constantly pushing boundaries.
