Google is quietly revolutionizing how you search on the go by adding a dedicated AI Mode shortcut to the New Tab screen on Chrome for both iOS and Android. This simple, prominent button, placed right below the main search bar, marks a significant shift: AI-powered searching is moving from an optional feature to a fundamental tool.
Smarter, Conversational Search
Tapping the button instantly launches Google’s advanced AI search experience, which is powered by the latest Gemini models. This is far more powerful than a traditional keyword search. It allows you to ask complex, multi-part questions, like planning a trip with specific budget and destination constraints and then engage in a natural, conversational thread. The AI retains context, allowing you to ask follow-up questions to refine your results without starting over.

Global Rollout and Convenience
The new shortcut dramatically reduces friction, making it easier than ever to access the AI for quick research or complex inquiries. This update is starting with US users but is part of a major planned expansion to over 160 additional countries with support for new languages like Hindi, Japanese, and Korean. By putting AI access one tap away on the New Tab page, Google is making its most powerful search feature the new default for complex queries, transforming your mobile browser into a personal, context-aware research assistant.
