It’s hard to believe, but this November marks exactly 25 years since a chunky black box adorned with a neon green “X” first changed the gaming landscape. To celebrate a quarter-century of Xbox, Microsoft has officially unveiled the hardware every nostalgic fan has been waiting for: the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition.
If you grew up playing the original Halo: Combat Evolved in a basement in the early 2000s, this design is going to hit you right in the memories.
Bringing Back the OG Green
Instead of the standard matte black tower, the Series X25 features a stunning translucent “OG Green” casing. Microsoft has fully embraced the Y2K aesthetic here, allowing you to peek slightly into the internals of the machine. When powered on, the iconic “X” on the front panel illuminates in that classic bright green.
Underneath the nostalgia, it’s still the powerhouse current-gen console you know, packing a 1TB SSD and the exact same graphical capabilities as the standard Series X. This isn’t a mid-gen performance upgrade it’s a pure collector’s dream.
The X25 Controller: A Nod to the “Duke”
The console is bundled with the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition (which Microsoft has confirmed will also be sold separately). The controller carries over the translucent green shell but adds several brilliant retro touches:
- Classic Colors: The ABXY buttons return to their original, vibrant 2001 color scheme.
- Duke Bumpers: The shoulder bumpers are styled to directly honor the black and white face buttons from the legendary, oversized “Duke” controller.
- Hidden Details: The back casing and battery door are completely transparent, revealing the classic Xbox logo hidden on the inside of the hardware.
The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition will officially launch globally in November 2026, perfectly timed for the exact anniversary month. While retail pricing for the bundle hasn’t been officially locked in just yet, expect these to fly off the shelves instantly.
Whether you’re a hardcore hardware collector or just someone who wants their entertainment center to look a little more like 2001, Microsoft just delivered the ultimate tribute to its gaming origins.
