Valve has drastically expanded its hardware ecosystem, announcing three new devices, the Steam Machine, Steam Controller, and Steam Frame, all set to launch in early 2026. This announcement video, titled “Steam Hardware Announcement,” positions these new products as the culmination of lessons learned from the successful Steam Deck.

Steam enters the console wars

Leading the lineup is the new Steam Machine, a compact, powerful gaming PC designed for the big screen. It is described as being “six times more powerful than a Steam Deck,” featuring a discrete semi-custom AMD GPU capable of 4K gaming at 60 frames per second using FSR. Running on a big-screen optimized SteamOS, it includes lightning-fast sleep and wake, an SD card slot for storage expansion, and a customizable LED strip.

An all rounder controller

Alongside the console is a redesigned Steam Controller, aimed at letting users play any Steam game. It incorporates all the best features of the Steam Deck, including trackpads, gyro, and back buttons, within a comfortable new form factor. Key upgrades include next-generation magnetic thumb sticks for improved responsiveness and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with over 35 hours of play time. It introduces the Puck, a magnetic charger and wireless adapter for easy pairing and charging.

VR enters the frame

Finally, the Steam Frame is Valve’s next-generation wireless VR headset. It’s a lightweight device that allows users to stream their entire Steam library, both VR and non-VR games, from their PC over a fast, dedicated Wi-Fi 6 connection. The headset features new technology that streams the highest resolution exactly where the user’s eyes are looking. Crucially, the Steam Frame is also a standalone PC running SteamOS, allowing users to install and play many games directly on the headset without a host PC.

The entire lineup is built to work together, offering powerful PC gaming within an open ecosystem, giving gamers more flexible ways to play.
