The nominations for the coveted Game of the Year (GOTY) award at The Game Awards 2025 have confirmed that the past year delivered one of the most competitive and diverse fields in gaming history. The six nominees showcase a powerful mix of highly anticipated sequels, innovative new IPs, and beloved indie darlings.
Leading the charge in nominations across all categories is the surprise frontrunner, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a stylish, turn-based fantasy RPG that has garnered significant critical acclaim for its narrative and art direction. It faces stiff competition from the sequel to Hideo Kojima’s post-apocalyptic epic, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, a title expected to push the boundaries of narrative and world-building.

The list is also strong with critically praised follow-ups, including Hades II and the long-awaited metroidvania sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong. Rounding out the nominees are the massive medieval RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and the Nintendo platformer Donkey Kong Bananza, ensuring that the final vote will be a dramatic clash between cinematic ambition, indie innovation, and nostalgic charm.
